Hey Rover Fans!!

So the Rovers are looking forward to an active summer.
We have a few gigs lined up, so far.

We will be playing at the Bay Area Accordion Society towards the end of June, then in July at the 4th of July parade in Aptos. We will also be at the Poet and Patriot a few times as well.

Finally, A big congrats to The Rio Rockers. They rocked the house at Don Quixote's last Friday night. Nice works guys!

Wear the Green

Not too long ago I was inspired to write a song about the Irish and their quest for freedom, faith and hope for the future. Wear the Green touches on the trials and struggles that Ireland has endured. The adventurous faith journey of St. Patrick introduces the song’s first verse, followed by the famed patriots of Irish History and their battle for Irish freedom from England’s tyranny. After editing the song over time, we decided to drop the 3rd verse exploring the exploits of Cúchulainn and the mythology of old, because of the song’s length. My favorite part of the song is the Bridge, which touches on the pain and suffering of war and the cry for justice. The Irish legacy of denominational strife, war and bloodshed are a painful chapter of Christianity. The very core and key command was when Jesus taught us: “To love one another, as I have loved you.” That is a difficult command to follow, at times when we consider what Jesus endured for us. The final verse describes the longing of many faith traditions: A new heaven and new Earth where suffering and tears are “wiped away.” I am encouraged by the recent peace the Protestants and Catholics are experiencing and the breaking away from the needless killing of each other.

The song broke away from the traditional Celtic sound and explored a fusion of a punkish, countryish sound. Are those words? Devin Avey, our lead guitarist, came up with catchy hooks and a unique solo that drives and diversifies the song. The Wild Rovers took this song and its foundations and made it driving and rocking. The final piece that brought it together was Dan’s drumming. Over time this song developed into one of our better ones because our consistent desire to make it the best it could be. Update from the Studio

For those of you who did not know, we have been sequestered in the studio since Tuesday working diligently to record our first real demo.  We first started talking about going into the studio to record almost a year ago, but the issue was placed on the back burner as we saved up money and solidified our line up after a few of the original members moved on to other things.  One of our main priorities was to record a few of the original songs that Martin and Devin have written, as well as showcasing Christina and Jeff’s voices in some of our traditional songs.  A few weeks ago we picked out five songs to record, and then on the first day of recording we managed to convince the studio engineer to let us record a sixth song.  So on the 30^th of December we started laying down the framework for Rover’s Hornpipe, Through the Storm, Wear the Green, Wild Mountain Thyme, Black Velvet Band and Wild Rover.  As things stand now we have managed to finish laying down the bass, drums, violin, banjo, lead vocals and half of our back ground vocals for all of the songs.  This leaves us one and a half days to finish the acoustic guitar, electric guitar and accordion, it will be cutting it close but we will make it!  We cannot tell you how excited we are about the prospect of getting these six songs finished and having them available for our fans before the high holy Irish holiday of Saint Patrick’s Day!

Dan Lingenfelter...Drummer Extraordinaire

Hello Rover fans

Well Kyle Griffith, our drummer and whistle player, is moving on to spend more time with his family. So we have asked Dan Lingenfelter to play drums for us. So this summer we will be spending time practicing up with Dan. So we will not have any more gigs until August.

We did have a great time playing the 4th of July parade in Aptos.

Hello Rover Fans and Fam.

After a fantastic, 4 day St.Patty's Day celebration, the Rovers have decided to take some time off.
We will not be playing until May 18 at the Santa Cruz Firefighters pancake breakfast benefit. We did this last year and it is important to support our local firefighters.

During our time off we will be resting and working on new songs. Please keep in contact with us , and let us know if there are other venues and gigs you would like to see us play at. Your feedback is greatly appreciated.

Thanks to those of you who joined us at the Poet and Patriot on Saturday night. It was another fun evening of singing and rowdiness.

St.Patty's day will be here soon, and we have already begun the celebration of our favorite green holiday. This year we will be at Crows Nest on Saturday, March 15, and then at Brittania Arms on Sunday, March 16. We hope to see you all at both shows. We'll have plenty of CDs and Shirts too.

WILD ROVERS ROVEN ABOUT

The Wild Rovers played last night at Crows Nest on the Santa Cruz harbor. It was a beautiful night of great music, and fun. We saw a bunch of new faces show up last night and we thank you for coming out and supporting us.

The Rovers will be playing a memorable holiday show at Brittania Arms on December 22. We will play some traditional Christmas songs as well as some Rover tunes also. Don't miss this gig, it will be our last one for the year.

Wild Rovers at Don Quioxtes

We just played good old Britannia Arms last Saturday, and it was quite fun. A good turn out, even though our, one of a kind, guitarist couldn't make it. We still had a blast! We have a few more gigs that you do not want to miss:
Wednesday, September 5 at Don Quioxtes. This is a great opportunity for us. We are asking all fans to come and support us at this venue. We will also be playing live on KPIG on Sunday morning, September 2 prior to the Wednesday night.
Look for us at Crows Nest this October, and then at Brittania Arms again in December.

Wild Rover Update

Dear Wild Rover Friends, Fans and Family,

We, The Wild Rovers, wanted to write you a brief newsletter to keep
you up-to-date with all that is going on in our band. It has been an
amazing year.

This last year our band lost our bass player and original Wild
Rover, Jorn Pahnke, who is now doing mission work in Fiji. We miss him
and he is truly rovin' around the world doing what he can to help out.
The Rovers were fortunate enough to land Ryan Zash as our new bass man. He is
a long-time friend of a lot of the guys. Ryan has stepped in and is a
fast learner, even though bass is not is his main instrument. It will
be though… yes it will.

7 Rovers were not enough, so Jeff Trabucco came along to sing
along and play Bodhrán. Next came Karl Heebner our sound master that
has helped us in countless ways. He enjoys the fact that we get free
beverages and he's not the only one. Finally, we added a feminine
touch with the beautiful voice of our guest singer, Christina Kree. We
will be finding new ways to add her into the fold.

This last year Devin Avey and Martin Sweet wrote several
originals to add to our repertoire:

Our band was able to make our first demo cd with 7 songs from a live
recording this last year. We are selling this CD for only $5 at our
performances. In addition, we have begun selling our new t-shirts with
the Wild Rover logo for $10 at our band's performances.

Finally, we wanted to share about our numerous upcoming
performances this summer. Hopefully you can join us for one or all of
these of shows. We get our summer started with our busiest week
to-date when we perform on a stage in front of the 4th of July in
front of Brittania Arms in Aptos at 9:00 a.m. just before the parade
begins. Next, the Wild Rovers will be playing at a private party on
Saturday, July 7th a ranch in Watsonville. After this, our band will
be playing traditional hymns at the Rio Theatre on Sunday, July 8th
with Faith Community Church at 10:30 a.m. We head to the Crow's Nest
in Santa Cruz on Thursday, July 12th at 5:30 p.m. for a beach
barbeque with a dance floor to boot! On August 3rd at 8:00 p.m. our band is pumped to
play up at the Brookdale Lodge in the Ben Lomand area. If you find the
time, please bring your friends to these performances so we can play
at these establishments again in the future. More performances will be
added as the details are worked out at Malone's in Scotts Valley and
The Attic in Santa Cruz.

Overall, our band is branching out, playing at many new locations and we are adding many new songs
to our set – list every gig. Please feel free to e-mail us song ideas.

Hey Wild Rovers fans,
This summer we have many new gigs lined up. We've been asked to play at the Crows Nest for their beach BBQ on July 12. That will be a fun time for family. We will be right on the beach. Also we will be playing at Brookdale lodge in Ben Lomond, We will be there on Friday, Aug 3. We have been practicing a few new songs. Christine Cree will be singing some classic Gaelic songs as well.
